How To Start Online

How To Start Online

One of the most important things when you start working online is to have the right attitude. A lot of people underestimate it because they think that all can be done “automatically”. Yes, you have a computer, but it will not do the work for you. You will have to learn and to work before you will see some results. Here are the tips that I learned myself when I started and hopefully it can help you get in the right state of mind to help you succeed.

How I Began

I have been looking to work online for a very, very, very long time. Years actually. I was so afraid of scams that I saw them everywhere. Then I heard about affiliate marketing, but I wasn’t convinced. I kept looking and looking for something, but I wasn’t even sure for what. I was just confused by everything we can find.

Two years after having heard of affiliate marketing, I finally decided to join a program. It was free to join (and still is), and it didn’t require a credit card. So I joined. Then I didn’t even have a look of what it was. It took me two months before I logged in again to see what it was about. This is when I actually started to see the real opportunity that I found.

My only regret is to have waited two years before giving it a chance. I wasted two years for no reason, it was free and I didn’t have anything to lose. If I didn’t like it, I could have just left.

The Fear Of Change And Failure

I think that this may be one of the biggest problems when trying to work online. We are so used to the office work, waking up, go to work, have colleagues, having breaks, go home…. But when working from home, we don’t have any of this. There is no structure, no schedule, no one in charge to make sure that we are working properly.

Here, you will have to work on your own, take your own decisions, and make your own schedule. This can be really intimidating at first. But you shouldn’t run away from the change. If you are here, it is because you are looking for it.

If you are new, you don’t even know what you are doing. You may not succeed at first. What is important to remember is that there is no failure, only opportunity to learn. Everyone makes some mistakes along the way, not just beginner but professional too. This is all a part of the learning process. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes, learn from them.

Working From Home Is NOT Vacation

This is something that was really hard for me (and still is) because I get distracted very easily. And on top of that I am also the kind of person to say “well… I can do this tomorrow, one more day won’t change anything…” but I can say that for 10 days in a row. So when I finally started to work on something, I was very slow to finish because of all the distractions.

It can take some real efforts for some people to keep working on a regular basis. All the point when working online is that you will get in return the work you are putting into it. And if you don’t, no one will be behind you to tell you to go to work. It is up to you to make things work.

How To Be Efficient

Make a working schedule

Because you are working from home, you should make a weekly schedule for yourself. It will be easier to work if you plan some time for it and you will be more efficient. Just adapt it to what suits you the best. If you want it as a part-time job, then schedule it like that, for a full-time job, do the same. The good point is that you can be flexible and put the hours where you want.

I my case, I am not a morning person, I prefer to work the afternoon and the evening. I also prefer to work on the weekend and go out during the week when it is less crowded, so I plan my work according to it. Just find what works the best for you 🙂

Write Your Objectives

You should also write down some objectives. They will help you move forward with your work and know where you are going. Be ambitious but try to be realistic too. Ambitious is good to push you further when working, keep you more productive. If you stick to the minimum, you will do the minimum. But at the same time, be realistic. If you put some objectives that are not within reach, you won’t even come close to them. You will think that you failed and over time loose motivation.

For example: “I will be millionaire by the end of the month!”=> Not realistic. “I will have my website up and running with two posts in it by the end of the week!” => Ambitious and realistic. This was my objective when I started. I didn’t reached it because it always takes me a lot of time to write just one post but I still got my website up and my draft for my posts so I was happy and close enough so I counted this as a win!

Try to reach your goals but if you can’t, IT IS OKAY! Remember that they are here to push you further, see what you have accomplished and keep the good work 🙂

Take Some Time For Yourself

Don’t Overload Yourself! Giving you too much to do may seem like a good idea to get more work done and succeed faster but it is NOT. All it will do is getting you more and more tired, you will lose your motivation, your focus and be less productive.

It is important to take some break and do things that you like. Go out, watch a movie, read a book, do some painting or crafting or anything you want. Think of yourself and make sure to give you some time to relax!

No More Hesitation, Take Action And Try!

Again, this is an advice that comes from personal experience. I wasted two years in hesitation when I could at the very least have a look at the program I found. The worst enemy that you will have when working online is yourself. It is just so easy to say “well, I will come back to this later…” This later can become weeks, month or years… Don’t make the same mistake.

It is okay to look for opportunities, you want to find something that suits you, but if you look and never try anything, then there is no point in looking.

Conclusion

To sum up, the best advices would be:

  1. Make a schedule for your work. Have some objectives and don’t stick to the minimum.
  2. Stay Motivated! Choose something you like to work on and take some time for yourself to relax.
  3. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes, learn from them.
  4. Take Action!
